Burlington, Ont. www.oasispools.ca Tel: 905-637-7711 SOUTHWESTERN B A backyard with a natural playground Charm Built to reflect the home’s southwestern architecture and the natural beauty of the Niagara escarpment, this swimming pool and landscaping project was carefully designed to blend in with the countryside setting in Carlisle, Ont. Oasis Pools Ltd., in Burlington, Ont., along with designer Lyn Glanfield, designed and built the project for a client who wanted large entertainment and play spaces with a strong link between the house, upper terrace and pool areas. Natural stone and complimentary colours were used throughout the backyard to provide a visual link between each element, while the freeform, concrete swimming pool, which resembles a natural wetland, is approximately 7.3 x 13.4 m (24 x 44 ft). It also features varying depths of 1 m (3 ft), 1.4 m (4.5 ft) and 2.3 m (7.5 ft). To further the natural appeal of the project, limestone was used to construct in-pool stairs and benches, which not only complement the limestone stairs leading to the cabana and patio area, but also provide continuity between the pool and surrounding landscape. Opposite the pool stairs is a magnificent waterfall constructed of local weathered limestone designed to look like a mountain river rushing into the pool. The pool’s formed and poured exposed aggregate coping and decking is hand-seeded with imported aggregate, while its coloured marbelite interior finish and porcelain tile waterline enhance the limestone features and further integrates the pool into its surroundings. Oasis made sure to meet the client’s needs of low maintenance and easy operation by installing energy-efficient equipment, which allows the homeowner to program automatic filtration and heating cycles. All of the equipment is conveniently stored in an underground concrete bunker hidden behind the waterfall.
