G E TAWAY The homeowner, in Thornhill, Ont., wanted to have the ultimate aquatic playground where family and friends could have a great time. To create this atmosphere, Lido Pools built an award-winning, lagoon-shaped inground vinyl pool with random-shaped, ragged edge flagstone coping around a 13.7-m (45-ft) long island comprising natural stone and interlocking pavers. The 7.6- x 15.2-m (25- x 50-ft) pool is connected to a 1.8-m (6-ft) wide, 26-m (85-ft) long ‘lazy river,’ which allows bathers to leisurely float through the pool area and back again on a gentle 4 km/h (2.5 mph) current. The island also includes a raised, grey granite spill-over spa finished in stone, which sends water cascading down into the pool, and a 4-m (13-ft) tall double spiral water slide, which propels bathers splashing into the deep end of the pool. The island also has landscaped areas with trees, shrubs, flowering plants and rocks. Accenting the pool and lazy river are a total of five rock waterfalls made from natural Armour Stone—three in the main pool area and two on either side of the river.
