BUILDER | PPL Group Mississauga, Ont. www.pplgroup.com Tel: 905-501-9635 Fire AND WATER A Classical elements influence this landscape design A developed backyard accented by mature pine and spruce trees, along with various other pre-existing landscape features, nestled in the small community of Port Credit, a suburb of Mississauga, Ont., provided PPL Group with several design options to consider when they were called upon to transform this homeowner’s property. With all the privacy one could ask for, the owner wanted to create a place where family members and friends could relax and unwind. In keeping with the modern ‘Hollywood’ design of the home and inspiration from Grecian architecture, PPL installed a 4.8- x 10.3-m (16- x 34-ft) one-piece fibreglass, Roman-end swimming pool that was fully equipped with all of the toys. The owner wanted the pool to be the entertainment hub of the backyard so it was necessary that it could be used both day and night. As such, the pool was equipped with multiple in-wall lights accented by four deck-mounted, light-emitting diode (LED) laminar jets that send arcing streams of light plummeting into the pool. It was also important the design complemented the straight lines of the home’s architecture, while not interfering with the existing row of trees that run down the middle of the yard perpendicular to the house. Two columns featuring individual water sheers were installed at the centre of the pool along the edge to create soothing sounds of moving water and enhance the visual appeal of the plain landscape. Keeping with this design scheme, two raised natural-gas fire pits were installed at each end of the pool, which allows the homeowner to recreate the flame effects one would find at a vacation resort in their own backyard.
