Prior to the pool installation, the yard was essentially grass and the inspiration was to create an outdoor living space that would allow the homeowner to use the backyard in the spring, summer and fall. To turn the client’s vision into reality, The Pool Craft Company in Richmond Hill, Ont., installed a 4.8- x 9.1-m (16- x 30-ft) flat-back, kidney-shaped vinyl pool, complete with a majestic 6.1- x 1.8-m (20- x 6-ft) custom-built armour stone waterfall, which sends water gently down the rock face into the pool. The round 2.3-m (7.6-ft), poolside spill-over spa is accentuated with natural stone coping, which further adds to the backyard’s rustic appeal. A random-cut flagstone deck surrounds the pool and spa area, while natural stone steps are strategically placed throughout the backyard. The deck provides several spaces for socializing, including a raised sitting area at one end of the yard and a poolside lounge area complete with a slatefinished, natural-gas fire pit, which allows the homeowner to entertain guests even during cool evenings in the fall. With the spa only a few steps away, bathers can also enjoy a late night dip. A covered cabana, opposite the patio area, is also perfect for social functions, as it includes a screen that easily opens and closes to prevent bugs from ruining an enjoyable get-together. It is also equipped with a wet bar and full bathroom.
